Ivan Gibbons Labour Candidate for North East Hertfordshire

News from the North East Hertfordshire Labour Party
Don't let the Tory sneak back in!
Ivan Gibbons fought the election here in North East Hertfordshire in 1997. He reduced the Conservative majority to 3,088 and we now need a swing of less than 3% to win next time.
Just look at the figures on the left. The Conservative candidate had less than 42% of the vote. Nearly 36% voted for Ivan Gibbons. Only a little over half that number voted for the Liberal Democrat.
This was repeated two years later in the European election, when the voters in North East Hertfordshire gave Labour almost twice as many votes as the Liberal Democrats.
With a system of proportional representation, such as the one recommended by the Jenkins' Commission, Ivan Gibbons would have been elected in 1997. There are differing views on the merits of such a change in the voting system, but Ivan supports a change - and not only because he would have won last time!
Don't just take our word for it
The independent experts of www.tacticalvoter.net have analysed the results in all constituencies. For North East Hertfordshire, they say: "If enough Liberal Democrats vote tactically for Labour this time, you could get rid of another Tory M.P.
Don't waste your vote!" In North East Hertfordshire, with the present voting system, a vote for the Liberal Democrat is not just a wasted vote. It is a vote for the Tory.
